Amarena cherries are the fruit of the Prunus cerasus tree which originated in Asia Minor and were brought to Italy by the Roman General Lucullus. In 1945, two brothers were working in a small workshop in Italy seeking a way to save their abundance of black Amarena cherries. That’s when the Toschi brothers got the great idea to preserve them in a sweet syrup so that can be enjoyed all year round.
